PAX West 2025, oh boy, what a circus🤡! I braved the crowds to witness previews of such groundbreaking titles as Kirby Air Riders (still waiting for that sequel, Nintendo🙄) and the mind-blowing Digimon Story Time Stranger (because who needs original ideas, am I right?). But what REALLY had me losing sleep was Little Nightmares III. Two whole hours of navigating a deranged circus🎪? Bandai Namco, you truly know how to spoil a guy😍.

I sauntered into the PAX West 2025 show floor, a beacon of hope in a sea of sweaty nerds🤓. The Little Nightmares III room was dripping with “atmosphere,” which is just a fancy way of saying “creepy decorations.” I needed a Player 2 for this co-op madness, and thankfully, a fellow writer from Rely on Horror volunteered (or was strong-armed into it, who’s to say?). Bless his soul🙏, as he witnessed firsthand my stunning lack of coordination and my uncanny ability to panic at every turn.

Low and Alone, the dynamic duo of doom and gloom, are our protagonists. Low, the archer, seems perpetually bummed out😭. Maybe he should try smiling for once? Alone, on the other hand, is the resident tough guy with a wrench💪. Talk about a well-balanced party…or not.

Little Nightmares III marks the first time players can experience the game in online co-op mode,” they say. As if anyone actually has friends to play with online🤣. Oh, and if you’re a lonely gamer, fear not! The AI companion will be there to judge your every move. But don’t even think about playing on the couch with your siblings because that’s not supported, because everyone hates that, right?

The demo dropped us into a twisted circus, populated by what I can only describe as “chonky nightmare elephants.”🐘 I was also attacked by possessed marionettes that are just begging for a porcelain-based lawsuit. The level design is so diabolical, it lures you into unnecessary rooms just to ratchet up the anxiety. You could run past, but what’s the fun in that? Gotta get those steps in🏃, even in a virtual nightmare.

But let’s be real, the visuals are the only reason anyone’s playing this game🖼️. The lighting is the true MVP, casting eerie shadows and making every corner a potential jump scare. And the weather?⛈️ Ominous AF. Perfect for those who like their atmospheric horror with a side of existential dread.

With online co-op and game sharing capabilities, the Little Nightmares franchise is more accessible than ever before,” they boast. As if accessibility matters when you’re screaming at your monitor in terror😱.

Gameplay-wise, the puzzles are so easy that even I could solve them. The real challenge is doing it while being chased by homicidal puppets🪖. My partner carried me through most of it. The only hiccup was the wonky aiming with the wrench. Guess I’ll stick to smashing things in real life🔨.

Supermassive Games wants you to fail…a lot. They call it “trial and error.” I call it “a waste of my precious time.”⏳ But hey, at least I got to die in new and exciting ways! And speaking of partners, communication is key🔑. Which is ironic, since the characters themselves are mute. Maybe they should take a communication class📚.

I’m also dying to know more about the story. Low’s got a case of the feels, despite having no face to express them. With all the subtlety of a sledgehammer🔨, I’m expecting a tear-jerking tale.

Little Nightmares III is coming soon to every platform known to humankind, including the mythical Nintendo Switch 2🦄. Get ready to experience the joy of online co-op and game sharing. Because nothing says “nightmare” like relying on strangers to solve puzzles with you.🎉
