iam8bit's "20th Anniversary Art Show" in LA: Prepare for Mild Disappointment (Nov 8-9)

Okay, boomer, listen up! 👴 iam8bit, those guys who keep trying to sell you overpriced vinyl and plastic game cases, are throwing themselves a ✨ p a r t y ✨! Yes, because nothing screams “relevant” like patting yourself on the back for two decades of… pressing buttons? 💿

So, after years of churning out records, CDs (lol, who even uses those anymore? 😂), and those fancy limited-edition Indie game boxes that end up collecting dust on your shelf, iam8bit is having an “art show.” Prepare to be amazed (or, more likely, mildly inconvenienced) on November 8-9 in the smog-filled paradise of Los Angeles 🌴. They’re going to “explore their origin story” – which, let’s be honest, probably involves a lot of Mountain Dew and questionable fashion choices – and remind everyone how they’ve totally “influenced” the art and gaming world. Expect 70+ artists to showcase how gaming looked in the 80s and 90s 🕹️. Because, you know, nothing says “cutting edge” like rehashing nostalgia for the millionth time. 🙄

Founded in the ancient year of 2005, these titans of industry™️ have been, get this, “redefining the entertainment industry.” By releasing… *checks notes* …premium physical editions? Groundbreaking stuff! 🤯 They even funded some games under the “iam8bit Presents” label. You’ve probably never heard of them. But trust us, they’re totally indie and cool and stuff. 😎

But wait, there’s more! Apparently, iam8bit has “inspired” Disney, Nintendo, Capcom, SEGA, and basically every other major entertainment company. Yeah, right. I’m sure Mickey Mouse is just dying to get that 8-bit aesthetic. 🤣 They’ve also produced gaming events like “Day of the Devs” (more like Day of the Desperate Indie Devs Begging for Attention) and “Summer Game Fest: Play Days” (where you can play games you’ll forget about by next week). 😴

Anyway, back to the art show. This is where iam8bit really gets to flex their “creative genius.” They’re “returning to their roots” by reminding you that they were doing this “retro-gaming art movement” thing before it was cool. 🙄 And now, they’re honoring the artists, fans, and creators who “shaped games and pop culture.” Which basically means they’re throwing a party for themselves and hoping you’ll buy something. 🤷‍♀️

Get ready to be bombarded with art showcasing consoles, characters, and games from the 80s and 90s. Because apparently, that’s all we care about. 🙄 And yes, you can buy the art. Because what’s an art show without a blatant attempt to drain your bank account? 💸

Here are some of the “acclaimed” artists who are gracing us with their presence:

**Alex Pardee:** A guy who designs artwork for Zack Snyder movies. Enough said. 🤦‍♂️
**Cobcris:** Makes stuff out of clay. Because that’s totally what the gaming world needs. 🗿
**Drew Wise:** Bridges pixel art and modern design. So basically, he makes old things look slightly newer. 🤏
**Hayden Evans:** Does something with mid-century style and pop culture. I’m already bored. 🥱
**Johana Molina:** An award-winning illustrator who explores memory, place, and time. I’m sure her art will be very relevant to video games. 🤔
**Keita Takahashi:** The guy behind *Katamari Damacy*. Okay, I’ll give them that one. That game was kind of fun. ONE POINT for iam8bit! ☝️
**Lee Gatlin:** Drew something for *Amazing Spider-Man*. Cool. I guess. 🤷
**Luke Chueh:** Paints cartoonish figures with dark undertones. Sounds cheerful. 💀
**Mark Borigons:** Designed the cover art for a jazz version of video game soundtracks. I didn’t even know that was a thing. 🎶
**Maya Quintero:** Creates images with “emotionally charged colors.” Sounds intense. 😬
**Natalie Anderwson:** Makes Risograph prints. I have no idea what that is, and frankly, I don’t care. 🤷‍♀️
**Paul Robertson:** Did pixel-art animation for *Scott Pilgrim vs. The World*. Okay, two points for iam8bit! ✌️
**Rex Crowle:** A BAFTA-winning artist who makes whimsical stuff. I’m sure it’s very charming. ✨
**Scott Campbell:** Worked on *Psychonauts*. Okay, three points! 👍👍👍
**Tata Billinger:** An Emmy-winning art director who worked on *Mickey Mouse* shorts. Okay, that’s actually kind of cool. 👍

So, there you have it. The iam8bit 20th Anniversary Art Show. A celebration of mediocrity, nostalgia, and overpriced merchandise. But hey, at least it’s free… to RSVP. You’ll still have to pay for parking, the art, and the crippling sense of disappointment. 😉

Jon M. Gibson, co-owner of iam8bit, says this show is a “labor of love.” Yeah, a labor of love for his bank account. 💰

Amanda White, the other co-owner, claims they’ve “gone above and beyond” to make this a show for 2025. I’m sure they have. By hiring a bunch of artists to create stuff you could probably find on DeviantArt for free. 💻

If you’re still somehow interested, you can RSVP on Eventbrite. But don’t say I didn’t warn you. ⚠️
