Oh boy, are you guys ready for some old-school thrash metal? 🤘 Because ANTHRAX just dropped the official music video for “Cursum Perficio”, the title track of their upcoming album, and I’m not sure if I should be excited or just nostalgic for the good old days. I mean, it’s been 10 years since their last album, “For All Kings”, and I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to headbang to some good ol’ fashioned thrash metal. Almost.
The music video, directed by documentarian Don Argott, who’s worked with the likes of LAMB OF GOD and Taylor Swift (yes, that Taylor Swift), stars London May, the former drummer and bassist for SAMHAIN. Because, you know, when you think of thrash metal, you think of… London May? Anyway, the video is in black and white, because, you know, art.
The Album
So, “Cursum Perficio” is the fourth single from the upcoming album, which will be released on September 18 via Megaforce in the US and Nuclear Blast in Europe. The album marks ANTHRAX’s first record in 10 years, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I mean, have they still got it? Can they still bring the noise? 🤔 The phrase “Cursum Perficio” is Latin for “My journey has come to an end”, which is pretty deep, man. Are they hinting at something? Is this their swan song?
But hey, the album will be available in like, a million different formats, because why not? You can get it on standard CD, Target-exclusive CD with a fabric patch, standard black double LP with pop-up gatefold, and like, 10 other variations. Because, you know, collectors gotta collect. And, of course, there’s a merch-exclusive lilac vinyl double LP with pop-up gatefold, because, why not? 🤑
The band started recording “Cursum Perficio” in 2022 at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles, which is like, the coolest thing ever. I mean, who wouldn’t want to record an album at Dave Grohl’s studio? They worked with producer Jay Ruston, who’s like, a big deal or something, and the result is an album that’s “as angry, aggressive, and alive as their most celebrated fare”. Okay, sounds good, I guess.

ANTHRAX will be celebrating the release of “Cursum Perficio” with a late-night in-store signing in Louisville, Kentucky, because, why not? They’ll be meeting fans at Guestroom Records, and if you want to attend, you have to pre-order the album directly from them. Because, you know, exclusivity. The event is limited, so, you know, hurry up and pre-order that album, I guess.
So, there you have it, folks. ANTHRAX is back, and they’re bringing the noise. Or, at least, I think they are. I mean, it’s been 10 years, so… 🤔 Anyway, go check out the music video for “Cursum Perficio” and let me know what you think. Is it a return to form, or is it just a bunch of old guys trying to relive their glory days? 🤷♂️
