Breaking news: Chad Gray, the legendary frontman of MUDVAYNE and HELLYEAH, has survived another year of life and is still somehow not tired of playing music 🎸. I mean, who wouldn’t want to celebrate 55 years of existence with a bunch of sweaty metalheads and a cake that’s probably been sat out for hours? 🎂. Gray’s wife, Shannon Gunz, presented him with a birthday cake onstage during his solo band’s concert at OCC Road House in Clearwater, Florida, because what’s more romantic than a public display of affection in front of a crowd of headbanging strangers? 🤷♀️
The concert was part of Gray’s ongoing “30 Years Of Madnesss” tour, which is a celebration of his 30-year career in music. Because, you know, 30 years isn’t enough time to get tired of playing the same songs over and over again 🙄. The tour features Gray performing hits from MUDVAYNE and HELLYEAH with a backing band consisting of Marcus Rafferty, Devin Attard, Nick Villarreal, and Joe Bonasorte. Support on the trek is coming from BUTCHER BABIES and DEVIL’S CUT, because who doesn’t love a good undercard of bands you’ve never heard of? 🤔
The “30 Years Of Madnesss” Tour: A Retrospective
Gray launched his “30 Years Of Madnesss” series of live appearances on April 24 at the Fremont Country Club in Las Vegas, Nevada, because what’s more madness-inducing than playing a bunch of shows in Vegas? 🤪. The gig saw Gray backed by HELLYEAH guitarist Christian Brady, Raffety, Attard, Bonasorte, and Villarreal, among other musicians. It’s like a big ol’ family reunion, except instead of a family, it’s a bunch of dudes playing music together 🤷♂️.
But wait, there’s more! Gray’s solo tour is also an opportunity for him to play songs from HELLYEAH, which has been inactive since early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because, you know, the pandemic is over and it’s totally safe to go back to crowded concerts and forget about the impending doom of climate change 🌪️. In the meantime, Gray had reunited with his previous band MUDVAYNE, which played its first two shows in 12 years in 2021 and has since completed several tours, in addition to releasing two new songs, “Hurt People Hurt People” and “Sticks And Stones”. Wow, what a productive guy 🙌.
MUDVAYNE: A Legacy of Face Paint and Sonic Experimentation
MUDVAYNE formed in 1996 and has sold over six million records worldwide, earning gold certification for three albums (“L.D. 50”, “The End Of All Things To Come”, “Lost And Found”). The band is known for its sonic experimentation, innovative album art, face and body paint, masks, and uniforms. Because, you know, what’s more metal than wearing face paint and pretending to be a superhero? 🦸♂️. The band’s guitarist, Greg Tribbett, sat out the band’s summer/fall 2025 “L.D. 50 25th Anniversary” tour after his wife reportedly lost her year-and-a-half-long battle with cancer. Our thoughts are with him and his family, but let’s be real, the show must go on, right? 🎭
In conclusion, Chad Gray is still alive and still playing music, and we should all be grateful for that 🙏. I mean, who needs new music when you can just play the same old songs for 30 years and call it a “celebration of your career”? 🎉. Happy birthday, Chad, may your next year be filled with even more face paint and sonic experimentation 🎂. 🤘
