Dave Mustaine bravely tackles Metallicas Ride The Lightning with vocals that wont shatter glass

Oh boy, are you guys ready for some serious nostalgia and possibly a few eye-rolls? 🙄 Dave Mustaine, the legendary frontman of Megadeth, has released a new “Behind The Song” video where he discusses his decision to include his version of “Ride The Lightning”, a song he co-wrote with Metallica back in the day, on the final Megadeth album. Because, you know, that’s not a song that’s been done to death already 🙃.

Apparently, Mustaine chose to record “Ride The Lightning” because he wanted to “close the circle” and pay his respects to James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, his former bandmates in Metallica. He also mentions that he’s always had a tremendous respect for Hetfield’s guitar playing and Ulrich’s songwriting skills. Yeah, because we all know how well those two get along 😒. Mustaine even goes as far as to say that he thinks Hetfield is an excellent guitar player and that Ulrich is an amazing songwriter. Who knew? 🤷‍♂️

The Story Behind the Song

According to Mustaine, he came up with the idea to record “Ride The Lightning” after talking to his son, Justis, who is part of the Megadeth management team. Mustaine said that he wanted to do a song that he had written with Metallica, and “Ride The Lightning” was the obvious choice. He also mentions that he sped up the song a little bit and added some modern touches to make it sound fresh.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Why did Mustaine choose to record a song that’s already been done by Metallica?” Well, apparently, it’s because he wanted to show respect to his former bandmates and to honor their friendship, despite the fact that they haven’t always seen eye-to-eye 🙅‍♂️. Mustaine even goes as far as to say that he thinks the guitar playing in Metallica changed the world. Hmm, I’m not sure about that, but okay 🤔.

More of the Same

In a separate interview with MariskalRockTV, Mustaine talks about his decision to include his version of “Ride The Lightning” on the final Megadeth album. He says that he chose the song because it was “the most emblematic of my guitar influence” and that he wanted to show respect to Hetfield and Ulrich. He also mentions that he’s always believed that when you do a song from somebody else, you’ve got to do it as good or better than the original. Yeah, because that’s exactly what the world needs, another version of “Ride The Lightning” 🙄.

Mustaine also talks about the guitar solo in the song, saying that he and current Megadeth guitarist, Teemu Mäntysaari, split the solo up and added their own flair to it. Because, you know, the world was just missing a Megadeth version of “Ride The Lightning” with a different guitar solo 🤷‍♂️.

In conclusion, it seems like Mustaine is still stuck in the past, talking about his time in Metallica and his contributions to the band. While it’s nice to see him show respect to his former bandmates, it’s also a bit tired 🙄. I mean, can’t he just move on and focus on his own music? 🤔 Oh wait, I forgot, this is Dave Mustaine we’re talking about, the king of holding grudges and talking about the same old stories over and over again 😂. Anyway, if you’re a fan of Megadeth or Metallica, you might want to check out the new video and see what all the fuss is about 🤷‍♂️.
