Oh joy, oh rapture! 💥 The metal gods have smiled upon us, and a new Candlemass album is in the works! 🙏 I can barely contain my excitement, and I’m sure you’re all on the edge of your seats, eagerly awaiting the next epic doom metal masterpiece from these Swedish legends. 🤩 But, let’s get real, we’ve been down this road before, and I’m not getting my hopes up just yet. 😒 After all, we’ve been waiting for a decent follow-up to “Sweet Evil Sun” for what feels like an eternity. 🕰️
So, what’s the big news? 🤔 Vocalist Johan Längqvist confirmed in an interview with Peter Kerr of Rock Daydream Nation that he and his bandmates are working on a new album. 🎉 Because, you know, we didn’t already know that. 😴 He said, “I’ve done a couple of demos for the moment. [Candlemass bassist and main songwriter] Leif [Edling] is writing on a new album for the moment, so there will be a new album.” 🙄 Wow, thanks for the update, Johan. We were all on the edge of our seats, wondering if you guys would ever get around to making another album. 🤣
The Songwriting Process: A Labour of Love (or Not)
Johan went on to explain the songwriting process, which apparently involves Leif writing all the music and lyrics, and then Johan trying out different melodies and hoping for the best. 🎶 He said, “Leif is the main writer of both the music and the lyrics. And if I’ve been doing a demo with Leif, then I’m back the very next day to finish it all, [and] then sometimes he has changed the lyrics… He’s the main man behind the lyrics as well, so that’s the way it is.” 🤷♂️ Yeah, because that’s exactly how all the great albums are made – with one guy doing all the work and the other guy just showing up to sing. 🙄
But hey, who needs creative input from the vocalist when you have Leif Edling at the helm? 🤣 I mean, the guy is a genius, and we’re all just lucky to be along for the ride. 🙏 Johan did mention that he’s been into music all his life and has a “library of melodies in my head,” which is nice, I guess. 🤔 But let’s be real, we all know that the real magic happens when Leif is at the helm, guiding the ship with his masterful songwriting skills. 🚣♂️
A Brief History of Candlemass (because you might have forgotten)
For those who may have forgotten (although, let’s be real, how could you?), Candlemass is the band that defined the epic doom metal genre with releases like “Epicus Doomicus Metallicus” (1986) and “Nightfall” (1987). 🙌 They’re like the gods of doom metal, and we’re all just mere mortals, worshiping at their altar. 🙏 And, of course, who could forget their epic reunion with former vocalist Messiah Marcolin at the 2025 Rock Hard Festival Greece? 🤯 I mean, it’s not like we’ve been waiting 20 years for that to happen or anything. 🙄
Anyway, Johan’s solo project, Johan Längqvist The Castle, released its self-titled debut album in June 2025, because, you know, one Candlemass album every few years just isn’t enough. 🤣 And, as we all know, the real question on everyone’s mind is: will the new Candlemass album be released in 2027? 🤔 Johan thinks maybe, but who knows, really? 🤷♂️ I mean, it’s not like they have a track record of delaying albums or anything. 🙄
In conclusion, a new Candlemass album is coming (maybe), and we should all be excited (or not). 🤔 I mean, it’s not like we have anything better to do than wait for these Swedish doom metal legends to grace us with their presence. 🙏 So, let’s all just sit back, relax, and enjoy the waiting game, because, as we all know, the best things in life are worth waiting for (or not). 🎉👏🔥
