Oh no! 😱 Apparently, some dude named Peter David, a “writer of stuff” (his words, not mine 🙄), shuffled off this mortal coil at the ripe old age of 68. I guess we’re supposed to be sad? He did some comic book things, most notably allegedly revitalizing The Incredible Hulk, which, let’s be honest, needed all the help it could get. And he also dabbled in the confusing world of X-Factor, a comic so convoluted even the writers probably didn’t know what was going on. He even won an Eisner for the Hulk run. Good for him, I guess? I’m sure it’s going straight into the metaverse. His wife, Kathleen O’Shea David, confirmed he died on Saturday, May 24. So, yeah, thoughts and prayers or whatever. 🙏
This “legendary” career at Marvel and DC apparently spanned decades. Decades! Imagine doing the same thing for decades. Sounds thrilling. His take on Bruce Banner was supposedly all about the “inner struggles,” which, you know, deep stuff for a green rage monster. Some people even claim it was “integral” to that Ang Lee movie that everyone pretends never happened. 🤫 He’s being compared to Frank Miller and Chris Claremont. Okay, calm down, people. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I mean, sure, he wrote some Hulk comics, but did he redefine a genre? Did he single-handedly change the way we view superheroes? Probably not. But hey, at least he’s not writing for clickbait websites, right? Wait…

Oh, and he did some stuff at DC too. Aquaman, Supergirl, Young Justice. Basically, all the characters that Marvel didn’t want. And he worked on Star Trek. Because if you’re a writer, you HAVE to write something related to Star Trek or Star Wars. It’s like a law or something. His best-known Trek work was a novel called Q-Squared. I bet it was mind-blowing. Probably changed the way we think about the universe. Or maybe it was just another Star Trek novel. 🤷
But wait, there’s more! He also worked on television shows! Babylon 5, Young Justice (again!), and Ben 10: Alien Force. Because why limit yourself to one medium when you can spread yourself thin across multiple platforms? He even co-created some Nickelodeon show called Space Cases. I’m sure it was a huge hit. Probably won all sorts of awards. Or maybe it was just another forgettable kids’ show. He wrote video games too! Shadow Complex and Spider-Man: Edge of Time. I bet they were groundbreaking. Probably revolutionized the gaming industry. Or maybe they were just another couple of games that nobody remembers. 🎮
Apparently, his health went downhill over the last 15 years. Back surgery, stroke, Type 2 diabetes. The whole shebang. And in 2022, they launched a GoFundMe because Medicaid dropped him. Ah, the joys of the American healthcare system! So, yeah, if you’re feeling generous, maybe throw a few bucks their way. Or don’t. I’m not your boss. I mean, the guy’s dead now, so it’s not like he can use the money. Maybe his family can buy a nice headstone. Or a lifetime supply of comic books. 🤔
So, yeah, Peter David is survived by his wife and four children. Condolences to them. I’m sure they’re all devastated. Or maybe they’re just relieved that they don’t have to listen to him talk about comic books anymore. Just kidding! (Maybe.) Anyway, rest in peace, Peter David. Or don’t. It’s not like you have a choice anymore. ✌️

Born in the small town of Respawn, Pennsylvania, Pixel grew up mashing buttons on an ancient NES controller, firmly believing that “blowing into the cartridge” was a sacred ritual passed down through generations.
