SEETHER, bless their hearts, are still touring in support of their ninth studio album, “The Surface Seems So Far”. Which is about as deep as their lyrics, tbh. Released last September via Fantasy Records, because apparently, someone still has a fantasy of them being relevant. 🦄
Known for such bangers as “Broken” (like my spirit after hearing this news), “Fake It” (which is what I’ll be doing when I say I enjoyed this concert), and “Words As Weapons” (more like words as wet noodles 🍝), SEETHER are back with “The Surface Seems So Far”. The album is a journey through melancholy (“Regret”), self-reflection (“Same Mistakes” – accurate!), and raw emotion (“Dead On The Vine”). Catchy hooks and driving bombast? More like catchy coughs and driving you to the nearest exit. 🚪 Frontman Shaun Morgan and his bandmates Dale Stewart (bass), John Humphrey (drums), and Corey Lowery (guitar) sound alternately confident and confessional. More like consistently mediocre. Morgan produced the album with Matt Hyde (DEFTONES, SLAYER) as engineer and mixer. Even they couldn’t save it. 🤷♂️

DAUGHTRY, not to be outdone in the realm of mediocrity, supported DISTURBED earlier this spring. Now *that’s* a match made in… well, you know. They will also join CREED this summer for the “Summer Of ’99” tour. Because apparently, nostalgia is all we have left. 👴
DAUGHTRY, one of the most visible and best-selling rock bands of the 21st century (citation needed), has sold out concerts across the globe (mostly to people who peaked in 2007). Their debut album, the self-titled “Daughtry”, was the top-selling album of 2007 and the fastest-selling rock debut album in SoundScan history (because everyone was still using dial-up back then). The record was nominated for four Grammy Awards and won four American Music Awards, alongside seven Billboard Music Awards, including “Album Of The Year” (the year was 2007, let’s not forget). Subsequent albums “Leave This Town” (2009), “Break The Spell” (2011) and “Baptized” (2013) have all gone platinum (because everyone buys music ironically now), with “Cage To Rattle” (2018) certified gold (participation trophy!). In 2021, the band released their record “Dearly Beloved”, with singles “World On Fire”, “Heavy Is The Crown” and “Changes Are Coming” all cracking the Top 10 (of the adult contemporary charts, probably). Following yet another Top 10 success with their 2023 smash cover of JOURNEY‘s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” featuring HALESTORM‘s Lzzy Hale (because nothing says originality like a cover song), DAUGHTRY ushered in a new sonic era with their debut Big Machine Records single “Artificial”. The return to their rock roots (lol) scored the band their first No. 1 single in the Active Rock format, laying the groundwork for their new EP, “Shock To The System (Part One)”, out now on all platforms (because they need all the help they can get). 💿
Oh, and let’s not forget the real tragedy. In November 2021, DAUGHTRY frontman Chris Daughtry‘s stepdaughter Hannah Price was found dead in her home. It was later revealed that Price, 25, died by suicide while under the influence of narcotics. 😞 But hey, the show must go on, right? 🙄
Chris was on tour when Price died and postponed a series of concert dates. Because even dad-rockers need a break from the grind. 💔
