More Reboots and Sequels to Ignore on Streaming This Weekend

It’s that time of the week again, folks, when the streaming giants unleash a fresh batch of movies upon us, because, apparently, we can’t get enough. This week, we’ve got a new Toy Story sequel, a documentary about Boeing, and a film from David Lowery, because who doesn’t love a good comeback story? As always, I’m here to guide you through the latest releases, because someone has to help you wade through the ever-expanding sea of content.

So, sit back, relax, and try to muster up some enthusiasm for the latest offerings from the world of streaming. I know, I know, it’s getting harder and harder to get excited about new movies when they’re being churned out at an alarming rate, but hey, maybe something will catch your eye. This week, we’ve got Toy Story 5, because Woody, Buzz, and Jessie just won’t quit, and why should they? It’s not like they’re not making enough money or anything. In this latest installment, the gang has to contend with a scheming tablet (voiced by Greta Lee) who wants Bonnie all to herself, because, you know, technology is the enemy. And, of course, there’s a new toy in town, a toilet training helper named Smarty Pants, voiced by Conan O’Brien, because who better to make poop jokes than the former host of The Tonight Show?

New Releases: Because You Clearly Haven’t Had Enough

If Toy Story 5 isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry, there are plenty of other options to choose from. You can check out Mother Mary, the new film from writer/director David Lowery, which tells the story of a pop star (Anne Hathaway) who reconnects with her costume designer and old flame (Michaela Coel) as she preps for a comeback tour. Because who doesn’t love a good comeback story, right? It’s like the ultimate Hollywood trope. And, hey, maybe this one will actually be good, unlike most of the other stuff that gets churned out by the studios these days.

Or, if you’re in the mood for something a little more… substantial, you can watch Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing, a documentary that explores the recent history of the airplane manufacturer Boeing and the controversy surrounding a corporate whistleblower. Because, you know, corporate greed and corruption are always fascinating topics. And, hey, maybe this documentary will actually shed some light on the inner workings of the corporate world, unlike most of the other documentaries that get made these days.

More of the Same: Because That’s What We’re Used To

And, of course, no week would be complete without a few more unnecessary sequels and reboots. I mean, who needs originality when you can just rehash the same old ideas over and over again? It’s not like audiences are getting tired of the same old thing or anything. So, if you’re feeling nostalgic for the good old days of Disney princesses, you can check out LEGO Disney Princess: Magical Mayhem, a new special featuring a bunch of classic (and plastic) Disney princesses. Because, you know, the world was just missing a LEGO Disney princess movie.

And, finally, there’s Facing El Chapo, a crime thriller from Mexico that’s based on true events. Because, you know, true events are always more interesting than fiction. And, hey, maybe this movie will actually be good, unlike most of the other crime thrillers that get made these days.

As I always say, the Content Mines remain fully operational, and the studios are still churning out the same old stuff, because why fix what ain’t broke, right? I mean, who needs originality when you can just rely on familiarity and nostalgia to sell your movies? It’s not like audiences are getting tired of the same old thing or anything. So, go ahead, folks, keep on watching, and remember, somewhere an algorithm has decided that you wanted this.
