Naruto Live Action Movie Because That Will Definitely End Well

Because apparently we haven’t adapted enough anime into live-action movies yet, Lionsgate has decided to launch a global casting call for the beloved Team 7 trio of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. Because, you know, the world was just missing a live-action Naruto film. The casting call is open to anyone who thinks they can bring these iconic characters to life, and I’m sure the competition will be fierce. I mean, who wouldn’t want to play a ninja with a penchant for ramen and a mop of messy blond hair? Additional casting for supporting roles will follow once the main three are filled, because of course we need to get the main trio right before we can even think about casting the rest of the characters. I’m sure the fans are just on the edge of their seats waiting to see who will be cast as Kakashi or Tsunade.

The Road to Live-Action

Plans for the film were first announced in 2024 by Lionsgate, when it was also announced that Destin Daniel Cretton would serve as director. Cretton is best known for Marvel’s Shang-Chi, as well as the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, because what’s a live-action adaptation without a little MCU flair? The film is being made with the blessing of Naruto creator Masashi Kishimoto, who is probably just thrilled to see his beloved characters brought to life in a whole new way. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see their life’s work adapted into a live-action film, right? Earlier this week, the project surged back to life with a post on the official Naruto X account and Cretton’s personal Instagram, because social media is the best way to generate buzz for a film.

The Creator’s Blessing

Kishimoto said in a statement, “Right now, miracles are happening to me, one after another. My work, ‘Naruto,’ is truly, truly becoming a Hollywood movie! And an even greater miracle is that the film will be directed by the one and only Destin Daniel Cretton. I still cannot believe it!” Ah, the classic “I’m just a humble creator who can’t believe my luck” statement. It’s always great to see creators who are just so thrilled to see their work adapted into a live-action film. I’m sure the check from Lionsgate didn’t have anything to do with it. Kishimoto added, “If so many miracles have already come together, then let us hope for even more. I am eagerly looking forward to the miraculous encounters that will bring us extraordinary and passionate actors! I cannot wait to meet my characters in the film!” Yeah, because that’s exactly what this film needs – more miracles.

Bringing Naruto to Life

Cretton added, “Kishimoto-sensei’s stories have inspired generations of fans around the world, and it’s an honor to bring his world and characters to the big screen in live action for the very first time. I’m thrilled to kick off this worldwide casting search for our Team 7 and to bring the incredible universe of ‘Naruto’ to life!” Oh boy, the hype is real. I can already see the trailers, the promotional materials, the merchandise – it’s going to be a wild ride. And of course, Cretton is thrilled to be a part of it, because who wouldn’t want to be associated with a beloved franchise like Naruto? It’s not like he’s just in it for the paycheck or anything.

No Plot Details Yet

We don’t currently know any plot details of the live-action film, but it’s easy to assume that it will adapt the beginning arcs of the manga and anime, showing the meeting of Team 7 and their early days. Naruto has consistently been one of the most popular anime and manga franchises in the world since its debut in 1999, with just the manga selling over 250 million copies to date. Yeah, because the world was just missing a live-action adaptation of a beloved anime franchise. I’m sure the fans are just clamoring for it. There is currently no official release date or window for the live-action Naruto film, but I’m sure it’ll be coming soon to a theater near you. Nature is healing, folks. The live-action adaptation of Naruto is coming, and nothing will ever be the same again. Shareholders rejoice, indeed. Another day, another live-action adaptation – it’s a brave new world we live in.
