Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s landmark album Daydream. Because, you know, 30 years is a completely arbitrary milestone that definitely warrants a deluxe edition. The Daydream: 30th Anniversary Edition features unreleased bonus tracks, fan favourites, live performances, classic remixes, and, of course, some rare writing demos because who doesn’t want to hear Mariah Carey’s rough drafts? Additionally, available to the public for the first time are excerpts from Mariah Carey’s original songwriting sessions for Melt Away, co-written and co-produced with Babyface, and I Am Free, co-written and co-produced with Walter Afanasieff. And, as the cherry on top, there’s a new remix of Underneath The Stars produced by Eric Kupper, because the world was just missing that.
Released on 16 October, Daydream: 30th Anniversary Edition will be available as a 3LP, 2CD, and cassette because, apparently, the music industry still thinks we use those things. The 3LP vinyl will include the full Live at Madison Square Garden 1995 concert performance for the very first time, which is sure to thrill the three people who still have a working record player. The collection also includes never-before-released tracks making their vinyl debut across the set, because the world was just waiting with bated breath for these unreleased gems. The 2CD and deluxe digital release will feature previously unreleased versions of Always Be My Baby and Open Arms that took place at Mariah Carey’s Daydream tour stop in Rotterdam on June 17, 1996, because who doesn’t love a good live recording from 25 years ago?

Originally released on 3 October 1995, via Columbia Records, Daydream stands as one of the most commercially successful and critically celebrated albums. The album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to produce multiple global hits, including Fantasy, which made history as the first song by a female artist to debut at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. One Sweet Day, Mariah Carey’s collaboration with Boyz II Men, also debuted at No.1 Billboard Hot 100 and went on to spend a record-breaking 16 consecutive weeks atop the charts, because who needs a social life when you can spend 16 weeks listening to the same song? Always Be My Baby also peaked at No.1 on the Billboard charts, because, at this point, it was just a given that Mariah Carey would dominate the charts.
