I can barely contain my excitement as I write these words: NILE, the legendary technical death metal band, is still alive and kicking. I mean, who wouldn’t be thrilled to hear that a band that’s been around since the dawn of time is working on new music? I’m sure the millions of fans who have been eagerly awaiting their next release are just on the edge of their seats. Anyway, in a recent interview with Rev. Tom Brice of Sportzwire Radio, Karl Sanders, the band’s guitarist and vocalist, talked about the progress of their songwriting sessions for their follow-up to 2024’s “The Underworld Awaits Us All” album.
According to Sanders, they’re currently working on song number six, and things are “humming along.” He also mentioned that the new lineup of guys they’ve got ison fire and that it’s “probably unfair how much fun it is” to work with them. I’m sure it’s a real blast to be in a band with a bunch of dudes who are all about making metal music and having a good time. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend their days playing music and touring the world? It’s not like they’re all just a bunch of old dudes who are clinging to their glory days or anything.
The Wait is Killing Us (Not Really)
Regarding the delay in releasing a new album, Sanders said that it’s better to take their time and get it right rather than rushing through the process and ending up with something they’re not happy with. He mentioned that they’ve had experiences in the past where they’ve had to meet deadlines and make decisions that they’ve had to live with for the rest of their career. I’m sure it’s a real burden to have to make decisions about guitar solos and vocal levels, but someone’s gotta do it.
In other news, NILE recruited Adam Roethlisberger as their new bassist/vocalist in September 2025, and he made his live debut with the band on September 12, 2025, at the opening show of their U.S. tour with CRYPTOPSY. Dan Vadim Von, the band’s previous bassist/vocalist, announced his departure from the band on August 20, 2025, citing a desire to focus on other commitments. I’m sure it was a real shock to the metal community when he left, but I’m sure they’re all just thrilled to have Roethlisberger on board now.
Upcoming Tour and Other Stuff
NILE’s tenth album, “The Underworld Awaits Us All”, was released in August 2024 via Napalm Records, and it was produced and recorded at Sanders’ own Serpent Headed Studios in Greenville, South Carolina. The album’s art was created by Michał “Xaay” Loranc, and it’s all about the cycle of life and judgment at its end. Because, you know, that’s not a cliché at all.
Next March/April, NILE and CORONER will join forces for a North American co-headlining tour, with support from SYN ABSENCE. The trek will kick off on March 2, 2027, in Greenville, South Carolina, and will conclude on April 11, 2027, in Leesburg, Virginia. I’m sure it’ll be a real blast from the past to see these two bands touring together again. I mean, who doesn’t love a good dose of nostalgia with their metal music?
In conclusion, NILE is still a band, and they’re working on new music. They’re taking their time, and they want to get it right. They’ve got a new bassist/vocalist, and they’re going on tour with CORONER. Because, you know, that’s not something that’s been done before. Anyway, I’m sure all the metal fans out there are just thrilled to hear this news, and they’ll all be eagerly awaiting their next release. Or not. 🤷♂️
