3 Weeb Conventions Near Tokyo That Will Make You Question Your Life Choices

So, you’re planning a trip to Tokyo? 🗼 Oh boy, are you in for a treat! 🤣 Forget the temples and gardens, because the REAL attractions are these three anime/gaming events that are TOTALLY worth your time and money. I mean, who needs culture when you can have SEGA, Frieren, and… GQuuuuuuX? 🤷‍♀️

If you’re brave enough to venture into the land of the rising sun 🇯🇵 (and have a few thousand dollars burning a hole in your pocket 💸), then you might consider these “major” anime/gaming events. There’s the SEGA Store Tokyo, because apparently, SEGA is still a thing in 2025. 👴 Then there’s some Frieren thing, because who doesn’t love obscure anime tie-ins? 😴 And finally, the pièce de résistance, the Anime Tokyo Station’s Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX exhibit. 🤖 I’m not even going to pretend I know what that is. 🤷 Anime and gaming fans have plenty to look forward to… or maybe not. 🤔

SEGA Store Tokyo is apparently the “iconic publisher’s” first official retail outlet in Japan. 🤔 I didn’t realize SEGA was still relevant enough to warrant a retail store. 🏢 It’s located on the sixth floor of Shibuya PARCO, which I’m sure is a super convenient location to navigate with all your anime merch. 🛍️ The store is a celebration of SEGA’s 60+ years of “iconic” characters from franchises like Sonic (still running somehow 🏃‍♂️), Yakuza/Like a Dragon (because who doesn’t love virtual crime? 🔪), Persona (for all you edgy teens out there 🧑‍🎤), and more. Following the roaring success of SEGA Store Shanghai in May 2025, this flagship location marks a “major milestone”. 🎉 I’m sure the shareholders are thrilled. 🙄 Located in the “heart of Japanese pop culture,” SEGA Store Tokyo will offer a wide range of merchandise, including “exclusive items” and “fan-favorite goods.” 🤡 I’m sure they’re all reasonably priced and of the highest quality. 💎

Next up, we have Dungeon ∞ Spiral, which has partnered with Frieren Beyond Journey’s End to provide a “cutting-edge, full-body action RPG experience.” 🥽 Located inside Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, Shinjuku, this sounds like the perfect place to get lost and confused. 迷子 Visitors team up in parties of 2-3 people to fight monsters 🐉, solve quests ❓, and win gold medals 🥇. Participants can choose one of four Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End characters—Frieren, Fern, Stark, or Himmel—as a “Buddy Character” for the low, low price of ¥1,500 (tax included). 💸 This “limited-time event” runs from July 18 to September 23—just in time for your “summer anime adventure” in Tokyo! ☀️ I’m sure it’ll be a totally unique and unforgettable experience. 💫

Here’s a full list of the Frieren Beyond Journey’s End activations and activities, because you definitely need a list to keep track of all this excitement:

“Exclusive merchandise,” including “collector’s sets” and “photo-worthy items.” 🤳 I’m sure your Instagram followers will be SO impressed. 💯
“Free digital photo spots” and “themed food & desserts” throughout the building. 📸 Because nothing says “anime adventure” like a poorly lit photo booth and overpriced pastries. 🍰
“Full gameplay in English” to welcome international visitors (Frieren characters speak in Japanese with English subtitles). 🗣️ Because nothing is more immersive than reading subtitles while flailing around in a dungeon. 📖

Last, but certainly not least, we have Anime Tokyo Station, an “anime exhibition site” dedicated to anime content. 🖼️ Under the motto, “Make ANIME more interesting, Bringing ANIME far into the future,” they regularly host “special exhibitions” for popular series and attract 187,602 visitors (as of June 29, 2025) from both Japan and overseas. 🌍 With the major theatrical release of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- and its series finished airing on Prime Video, new illustration cards are being added to the exhibit every few weeks. 🎉 What is even better is that the admission fee is free! 🆓 (probably because no one would pay for it)

It was decided that two new designs would be added to the illustration cards, which are distributed as an admission bonus. 🎁 The second design is based on the teaser visual with an “impressive” back view of Nyaan looking up at MACHU and the GQuuuuuuX, and the third design features MACHU looking back, which is the “iconic and pop key visual” of the TV series. 🤪 Why not try to complete the entire collection over summer vacation? 🏖️ I’m sure your life will be significantly improved by owning all three. 💯 Here is a list of the new design distribution periods going on right now, and upcoming:

2nd design: July 5 to July 25
3rd design: July 26 to August 11

There is still “plenty of summertime fun” to be had this year, and “so many events” to check out in and around Tokyo. 🎊 These three anime and gaming events are “sure to entertain,” especially if you are a “dedicated fan” of one or more of these worlds. 🤡 You can also check out the respective websites to learn more. 🔗 (Don’t say I didn’t warn you). ⚠️
