Taxpayers Foot The Bill For Trumps Ego Boost Commercial

Taxpayers Foot The Bill For Trumps Ego Boost Commercial

As I sat here sipping my coffee and reading about the latest TV ad from the White House, I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. The ad, which is paid for by the U.S. Government, promotes President Donald Trump and his policies, and it’s definitely an… interesting watch. The 30-second commercial features rapidly edited pictures and video of Trump, set to the song “Love Me” by JMSN, with text on the screen touting his administration’s accomplishments, such as “reigniting American manufacturing.” And, of course, it ends with a clip of UFC President Dana White praising Trump as the “toughest, most resilient person that I’ve ever met.”

The ad started airing on Wednesday across the country on cable TV, including Fox News, as well as connected TV, according to AdImpact. The ad-tracking service said the government has spent just over $14,000 to run the ad so far, which is a small amount of money compared to the tens of millions of dollars that are flooding the airwaves in the final weeks of the midterms. But what’s really noteworthy is that the ad doesn’t mention any races or candidates, and it marks an atypical use of taxpayer dollars at a time when Trump has sought to make himself front and center in the elections.

The White House declined to elaborate on how the ad is being funded, but defended it as part of “public service announcements” to promote national pride. A White House spokesperson said in a statement, “The ad is educational and unapologetically patriotic. We should be proud of our country.” And, apparently, the administration thinks that promoting Trump’s image is a good way to do that. Bless their hearts.

But not everyone is happy about the ad. JMSN, the singer-songwriter whose song is the soundtrack of the ad, suggested on X that the administration used “Love Me” without his permission. He wrote, “I am looking at lawyers and handling this internally.” And the government-funded ads have also drawn scrutiny from some Democrats in Congress and the government watchdog group Common Cause, which suggested it could violate rules against using taxpayer dollars for “propaganda.”

As the midterms approach, it’s clear that Trump’s political operation is gearing up to spend big. MAGA Inc., the main pro-Trump super PAC, entered September with $416 million cash on hand, according to a recent campaign finance filing. And with this new TV ad, it seems like the administration is trying to get in on the action too. But, as Carol Evans, the vice president for policy at Common Cause, told CNN, “I don’t think you have to be a legal scholar and wonder why the president has to use taxpayer funds to promote his image” this close to an election.

In conclusion, this whole situation is just a big ol’ mess, and it’s got everyone talking. The ad is definitely a unique use of taxpayer dollars, and it’s raised a lot of questions about the ethics of using government funds to promote a president’s image. And, let’s be real, it’s just plain funny to watch Trump try to be patriotic while also being, well, Trump. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy the show – it’s gonna be a wild ride!
