I just spilled my beer all over my desk because I was so excited to read that Dez Fafara, the frontman of DevilDriver and Coal Chamber, doesn’t have a brain tumor or brain cancer, as some “reputable” music sites (ahem, not us, of course) had previously reported. I mean, what’s a little misinformation among friends, right? 🙄
So, it turns out that Dez has been dealing with a non-cancerous tumor on his salivary gland, which is located just above his jawline, because that’s exactly where you want a tumor – near your face, right? 😷 He revealed this juicy tidbit on “The Garza Podcast” and later clarified the situation on Instagram, because, you know, the internet can be a bit of a mess sometimes.
The Tumor Saga
Apparently, Dez has been living with this tumor for almost two years now, and it’s been shrinking on its own, much to the surprise of his doctors. I mean, who needs medical treatment when you’ve got a positive mindset, right? 🤷♂️ The tumor is located in a delicate spot, and surgery is not an option until it grows, because, you know, surgery is always a fun and risk-free experience 🤪.
But seriously, Dez has been dealing with some health issues lately, including a brush with COVID-19 in 2021, which nearly took him out. He was also forced to cancel DevilDriver’s appearance at the 2023 Bloodstock Open Air festival due to inflammation in his lower heart. And, more recently, Coal Chamber canceled their “Fiend For The Fans” U.S. tour, which was supposed to feature support from Fear Factory, Twiztid, Black Satellite, and Frayle.
Upcoming Tour and New Album
On a more positive note, DevilDriver’s new album, “Strike And Kill”, was released on July 10 via Napalm Records, and they’re set to tour across the western United States with Upon A Burning Body and Ov Sulfur. The “Strike And Kill” North American tour 2026 will kick off on August 14 in San Diego, California, and will hit a slew of major cities before concluding on September 5 in Anaheim, California.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, Dez Fafara is a total boss for dealing with all these health issues and still managing to produce some kick-ass music 🤘. So, let’s all take a moment to appreciate this metal legend and his unwavering dedication to his craft. And, you know, maybe we can all learn a thing or two from his positive attitude and, uh, ability to shrink tumors with his mind 💪. Cheers to that! 🍺
