Oh no, the music world is literally ending: L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has passed away at 59 🤯. I mean, who needs good news, anyway? It’s not like we’re already drowning in a sea of despair and desperation. Finch’s bandmates announced her passing on social media, because what’s more fun than sharing tragic news on the same platform where you post your cat’s birthday party photos? They wrote: “With a very heavy heart we announce that our beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker Jennifer Finch has passed away today. She had a long courageous fight with brain cancer and was loved by many wonderful friends, musical peers and fans worldwide.” Wow, what a bummer. I was really looking forward to a joyful and uplifting day, but I guess that’s not happening now.
So, Jennifer Finch was a total legend and a true original, and her passing is a huge loss for the music world. I mean, who else can say they were a part of a band that blended punk ethos, heavy grunge, melody, socio-political anthems, and humor? 🤔 It’s not like there are a million other bands out there trying to do the same thing. L7 was formed in 1985 and went on to release a bunch of awesome albums, including “Scatter The Rats” in 2019, which was their first album in 20 years. Talk about a comeback.
The Last Hurrah Tour
L7 was supposed to embark on their final world tour, “The Last Hurrah Tour”, but Finch had to drop out due to her cancer diagnosis. The band decided to continue the tour without her, because what’s a little thing like cancer going to stop them from rocking out? 🤘 They even got Tsuzumi Okai, a former touring bassist for Limp Bizkit, to fill in for Finch. I mean, it’s not like they could have just canceled the tour and taken a break or something. That would be way too sensible.
The first leg of the tour is set to kick off in the US on October 9, and will include stops in various cities, including New York City, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles. Because, you know, the show must go on, even if one of the band members is no longer with us. I’m sure it’ll be a real blast, playing all those L7 classics without the person who helped create them. 🎸
A Legacy of Awesomeness
L7’s music has been featured in various movie soundtracks, including “Pet Semetary 2”, “Natural Born Killers”, and “Tank Girl”. Because, you know, their songs are just that cool. 🎥 They’ve also released a bunch of iconic albums, including “Bricks Are Heavy”, “Hungry For Stink”, and “The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum”.
