Another week, another batch of new TV shows and series to add to your already overflowing watchlist. Because what you really needed was more options to choose from. This week, we’ve got a revival of the classic sitcom A Different World, a new season of American Horror Story, and a Willy Wonka game show because why not? It’s not like we’ve exhausted every other possible idea in the world of television.
We love movies, but sometimes you don’t want a 90-minute, one-and-done entertainment. Sometimes you want that deep dive that’s going to take days or weeks to finish. Sometimes you want long-term storytelling and rich characters. And sometimes, you just want to binge something mindless to escape the existential dread of everyday life. Either way, we’ve got you covered.
The original A Different World was a staple of late ’80s and early ’90s primetime and syndication, following the lives of a group of students at a historically Black college. On Netflix’s new revival, a new batch of students arrive at Hillman College — one of whom is the daughter of old school Different World characters Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley (Jasmine Guy). Because what’s more original than rebooting a classic show with a new generation of characters? Somewhere, a Focus Group earned another bonus for suggesting this idea.
New TV Shows and Series to Watch This Week
This week, you can also watch the latest season of American Horror Story, which will supposedly revolve around superstitions involving the unlucky number 13. Because who doesn’t love a good horror story about bad luck? The season will feature returning AHS stars Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, and Emma Roberts. Because when you’ve got a good thing going, why change it?
If you’re looking for something a little more lighthearted, you can check out Wonka: The Golden Ticket, a new Netflix competition series that invites competitors into a simulacrum of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Because what’s more fun than competing in a chocolate-themed game show? The show is inspired by the Roald Dahl novel and its movie adaptations, because Hollywood has once again mistaken familiarity for originality.

Other new shows to watch this week include Line of Fire, a series that follows a fractured family of protective service members who have to learn to protect each other when they become prime targets of an assassin they share a connection with. Because who doesn’t love a good action-thriller about family and assassination? The show stars Peter Krause and Hope Davis, and is available to stream on Peacock.
You can also check out Youth, a new series from Sharon Horgan of Catastrophe and Divorce. The show follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling and caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown-up son. Because who doesn’t love a good comedy-drama about midlife crisis? The show is now streaming on HBO Max, because the Merchandising Department reportedly approved the decision before the writers did.
As the Content Mines remain fully operational, and the Franchise Resurrection Department remains one of Hollywood’s busiest offices, we can’t help but wonder what other reboots and revivals are in store for us. Will we see a revival of Friends next? Or maybe a reboot of The Big Bang Theory? The possibilities are endless, and by endless, I mean exhausting. Another beloved franchise has successfully avoided the sweet release of death, and we’ll just have to wait and see what other nostalgia-fueled projects are coming our way.
